Atherton based theatre company, New Garrett Theatre Group, took to the stage in June to raise funds for Think Ahead Stroke.

The charity concert, which raised £500, saw the group perform a selection of show tunes, in two 45 minutes sets, for a packed room at Atherton’s Conservative Club. Some of the hits performed on the night included numbers from their upcoming production Legally Blonde, as well as The Greatest Showman, Chicago and Jersey Boys.

The performers use the Conservative Club to rehearse and to store some of their costumes and equipment and wanted to give something back, so Chairman Keith Burge jumped at the chance for them to put on a performance to raise money for a charity that is close to his heart.

Keith said: “Think Ahead is a charity that means a lot to me. My late wife Margot had a stroke in 2005 and it was a very tough time for us, but we found Think Ahead and they made a significant difference to our lives - everyone was so friendly and helpful, and speaking to people who had been through the same thing as us really helped.

“We loved going on their trips away and attending some of their groups, they were a lifeline for us at a very difficult time. I can’t thank them enough for the help and support they offered us over the years.”

Keith concluded: “The charity concert was a brilliant night, I’ve never seen the room so packed, and everyone had a fantastic time, so I would like to thank the performers for putting on such a wonderful show.”

Think Ahead’s Carol Sankey said: “We’re so grateful to Keith and the New Garrett Theatre Company for putting on this fantastic show and raising funds for Think Ahead.

“We are incredibly grateful for every penny that is raised for the charity, every penny stays local and goes towards providing help and support for stroke survivors and their carers across Wigan and Leigh.”

The New Garrett Theatre Company will be performing their next show, Legally Blonde, at Atherton Community School from the 14th-17th August, tickets are available from www.ticketsource.co.uk/tngt.
