Think Ahead Stroke is proud to announce it has forged a partnership with national Building Services Engineering company HE Simm to raise stroke awareness.

The partnership aims to raise awareness of stroke prevention and identification with HE Simm’s national workforce, through a schedule of engaging activities, such as presentations, posters, leaflets, social media and videos.

Stroke is the number one cause of disability in the UK, yet many people are unaware of the symptoms, causes or what they can do to help reduce their risk of experiencing this often devastating condition.

HE Simm became aware of Think Ahead after signing-up to the charity’s 2018 Dragon Boat Racing Day, and now makes the event an annual team-building exercise, taking home the trophy at the 2019 contest.

Since then the company has donated specialist mechanical engineering support, as part of the ongoing refurbishment of Think Ahead’s Ince based Stroke Information Centre.

Think Ahead’s Executive Manager Carol Sankey, said: “We’re so pleased to be working with HE Simm to raise awareness of stroke with the company’s employees.

“Stroke is the fourth single leading cause of death in the UK, with around 100,000 occurring every year, but awareness and understanding of the condition is low. Many people wouldn’t be able to identify if someone is having a stroke, and most are not aware that 50% of strokes could be avoided with some simple lifestyles adjustments.

“It’s important that people understand what they can do to reduce their risk of stroke, and how to identify the symptoms so that patients can receive urgent medical assistance quickly, which is critical to the patient making the best possible recovery.

“We look forward to running a successful campaign with the team at HE Simm and we hope to work with other businesses in the area to promote stroke awareness through corporate partnerships.”

Carol concluded: “Also, we must say a huge thank you to the HE Simm team for the work they have provided at our Stroke Information Centre, we are incredibly grateful for their help.”

HE Simm’s HR Manager, Victoria Simm, said: “We’re really pleased to have Think Ahead on board to help us raise awareness of stroke.

“We take the health and wellbeing of colleagues very seriously, and having read statistics on how pervasive stroke is, we knew it was something that we needed to tackle head on.”

Victoria concludes: “The Think Ahead team is a pleasure to work with, they are incredibly helpful and professional, and they have come up with an engaging and informative bespoke package of activity that will not only educate our workforce about stroke, but will help us to meet our corporate CSR objectives and increase engagement right across the business.”
