Fancy a day as a sports commentator?

Ever fancied yourself as a John Motson? Think you could give Claire Baldwin or Martin Tyler a run for their money?

Well why not tap into your frustrated inner sports commentator, show the world what you can do and help raise money for local stroke survivors and their families.

Think Ahead Stroke is offering one lucky person the chance to commentate on its annual Dragon Boat Race Day on Friday 6^th September 2019.

The ever popular annual event returns to Leigh’s Pennington Flash, with teams of eager dragon boat racers battling it out for the Think Ahead Stroke trophy.

The race ‘caller’ will:

Introduce each dragon boat team
Commentate as the battle for each race ebbs and flows
Introduce the names of different dragon boat racers
Call the winner of each race
Keep everyone informed of the overall score

Everything will be set up on the day, including notes and background on all the various teams and dragon boat racers.

No previous experience is required, just a willingness to get stuck in and have a laugh.

Think Ahead Stroke’s Executive Manager Carol Sankey said: “Our Dragon Boat Race day is now a firm fixture on the local calendar, with loads of teams and spectators coming down to enjoy the action.

“Having a fun loving, local man or woman add a bit of banter to the day would just be the cherry on the cake. So come on Wigan and Leigh motor mouths, let’s be hearing from you!”

What is a Stroke

A stroke is a blood clot or bleed in the brain and can lead to permanent neurological damage, complications and sometimes death. There are different types of strokes, depending on whether the disruption in blood flow resulted from a blockage or a burst, Ischaemic Stroke, Haemorrhagic Stroke, Subarachnoid Haemorrhage, and Transient attack or ‘mini-stroke’.
