On the 10th August we are cycling the Coast to Coast from Seascale to Whitby in 24 hours to raise money for two local charities, One Vision Media and Think Ahead Stroke Support.

One Vision Media is a non-profit group that provides training courses for people with learning disabilities in all aspects of media production. Think Ahead supports people recovering from strokes, providing advice and counseling together with information for carers.

Proceeds raised from this campaign will be split 50/50 between the two charities. All of the costs for organising this event (vehicle hire, fuel, accomodation, food, etc.) have been provided by Case & Young, Tubado and the support team members.

The coast to coast  is an iconic route cycled by hundreds of people every year, usually over 4 or 5 days. But how about doing it in under 24 hours?

A 150 mile ride with over 4500m of ascent (taking in two of the Lake Districts toughest climbs, Hardknott & Wrynose) starting in the Western Lake District, heading through the Yorkshire Dales, across the flat Vale of York and finally the Northern Valleys of the North York Moors, finishing by the sea in Whitby.

Can YOU Help Support?!

Each year, approximately 150,000 people in the UK experience stroke. While some make great strides to recovery, others are left to deal with long term physical health problems’ such as one-sided paralysis (hemiplegia), speech and communication difficulties, or a reduced visual field.

There are also huge social consequences. For many survivors and their loved ones, life will never be the same again. People often face isolation, anxiety and depression as they struggle with changes in emotion; issues with concentration and memory; tiredness; and talking, laughing or crying for no reason.

At Think Ahead, we understand the physical and mental difficulties faced by stroke survivors and those who care for them and provide a network of friendship, information and advice. An individual will often first choose to attend either our Self Care for Stroke educational programme, or our new Wellbeing Course to manage daily stress, anxiety and periods of low mood. Our ongoing calendar of events and activities has been designed to make sure that all of our members then continue to feel as involved in the group as they’d like to be going forward.
