Spring View residents, Prue and Craig Prescott, raised a staggering £1,000 for Think Ahead by completing a 5km run in Blackpool.

Despite being novice runners, and with injuries to contend with, the couple achieved impressive times – with a dodgy right knee Prue completed the course in a more than satisfactory 32 minutes, whilst Craig made it round in a speedy 25 minutes.

Think Ahead is well known to the couple as Prue’s Mum, Hindley resident, Lynne Tindall is a stroke survivor and long standing member of the charity.

Prue said: “I was having a few glasses of wine with a friend back in January and had the brilliant idea to do a run to raise money for Think Ahead, as well as to help improve my general health – all the best decisions are made after a few drinks on a Saturday night aren’t they?

“My Mum is a stroke survivor and has been an active member of Think Ahead for over 10 years. The charity has been a lifeline for her, helping her in her recovery and in getting her confidence back after her stroke.

“She is involved with a few of their regular activity groups, and tutors their Card Making class, she absolutely loves them and they keep her active – I really can’t thank Think Ahead enough for the support they’ve offered her over the years.”

Prue concluded: “Because of my knee injury I found the race really tough going, but every time I wanted to give up I thought about my Mum and how strong and positive she is and I carried on – she never gives up and nor will I.”

Think Ahead’s Carol Sankey, said: “We are so grateful to Prue and Craig for raising such an amazing sum of money for the charity, we can’t thank them enough for their efforts. That donation will assist us in delivering vital services for Stroke Survivors and their carers across Wigan and Leigh.”

Carol continues: “If anyone else out there would like to raise funds through sponsorship, then they can easily set up a fundraising page by visiting www.think-ahead.org.uk/Pages/Fundraisers and we’ll help promote it via social media.

“We guarantee that every penny you raise for Think Ahead is used on the ground in our community.”
