Around half of stroke survivors suffer depression in the first year following their stroke.

Driving

Because of the effects of your stroke you may not be able to drive. The DVLA rules state:

  • You must not drive for one month after a stroke
  • After one month you must get clearance that you are safe to drive from your GP or consultant

If you do not get clearance then:

  • Inform the DVLA and your Insurance Company (failure to inform your insurers could make your insurance void)
  • Do not drive
